Unlike the Dell V130 and HP 5310m, the Vostro 3350 runs on a full-powered, standard-voltage processor. Not only that, the 2.3GHz Intel Core i5-2410M is based on Sandy Bridge technology. It's as powerful as the Lenovo X1, but at a fraction of its costs. On PCMark Vantage, the Vostro 3350 scored 6,688, easily trumping the Dell V130 (4,228), Dell E5510 (6,159), and Dell E420s (6,454) in PCMark Vantage—an overall performance gauge. Along with 4GB of DDR3 memory, the Vostro 3350 also topped the others in Handbrake (2:33) and Cinebench R11.5 (2.56) tests. Though this configuration came with only integrated graphics, its 3DMark06 scores (5,672) are still better the rest of the board and indicative of some gaming prowess (albeit at low resolutions), plus an ATI discrete option is available.
The icing on the cake is the 80WH battery, which is bigger than every other battery in this group. This resulted in the kind of battery life international travelers and road warriors long for—9 hours 36 minutes on MobileMark 2007 tests. That's nearly triple the battery life of the Dell V130 (3:02) and Lenovo X1 (3:20) and double that of every other laptop in this group. It simply had no equals in this department.
A budding startup or even an established company isn't always shopping around for the best business laptops money can buy. The Dell Vostro 3350 is an all-around terrific small business laptop, packed with the future-proofed features and enough battery life to fly you almost anywhere in the world on a single charge. All that earns it our Editors' Choice nod for small business laptops.
